In November 2020, while adhering to strict hygiene and social distancing measures in rehearsals, the ensemble of the Tanztheater Wuppertal completed an ambitious re-staging of The Piece with the Ship with a new intergenerational cast. The process was accompanied by the Israeli artists Saar Magal and Niv Marinberg. Rarely seen, The Piece with the Ship premiered in Wuppertal in 1993 and was last performed in Saitama, Japan, 24 years ago.
Scheduled to launch the one-week performance series Pina Bausch Centre under construction in November 2020, the performance had to be moved online due to coronavirus restrictions.

The Tanztheater Wuppertal is now planning to perform the piece live on stage with an audience in January 2021. After that, it will go on tour – if at all possible. Booking for the performances in Wuppertal opens on 5th January.
