Melanie Martinez

Originally from Miami, Florida, Melanie began her training at her grandmother’s ballet studio until being accepted into the New World School of the Arts high school. She continued her training at Point Park University in Pennsylvania, USA where she earned her BFA in 2021. There, she performed works by Azsure Barton, Kyle Abraham, John Higginbotham and Jae Man Joo, among others.

After graduating, she joined Parsons Dance Company as an Apprentice for their 2021-2022 season. She then moved to New York full time to become a freelance artist. During this time she performed the solo Shadow Journal by local artist Macie Harris at the Arts on Site Performance Space, as well as Uncurling–5 by Hadiya Matthews at the Modern Moves Dance Festival. She also performed in fashion designer Jackson Wiederhoeft’s New York Fashion Week Spring season 2025 show under the movement direction of Austin Goodwin and Melanie Moore. Additionally, she worked under the direction of Punchdrunk’s Steven Apicello and Nicholas Bruder as a performer in the revival of the German art carnival LUNA LUNA, held at the Shed in Hudson Yards. While based in New York from 2023-2025, Melanie frequently travelled to Europe where she learned and performed under choreographers such as Medhi Walerski, Laja Fields, Baye & Asa and Juliano Nunes.

After a successful audition at Tanztheater Wuppertal in August 2024, Melanie made her debut in Spring 2025 as a guest with the company during the run of The Seven Deadly Sins by Pina Bausch. She is beyond thrilled to now be a part of Tanztheater Wuppertal as a full-time company member.
