Luciény Kaabral

is a dancer from Cape Verde, born in 2001. She started to dance professionally in 2018 when she joined the Raiz di Polon company, a contemporary and traditional dance company from Cape Verde.

Since 2018, she has been developing laboratory work on free, contemporary movements and body expression directed by Cape Verdean choreographer Nuno Barreto. Luciény is co-creator of the Badju Kabu Kaba project, a dance promotion and production project in Cape Verde. She participated in pieces and performances such as Cisne Preto, Objetivação do feminino, A Sereia Manína e os Sapatos Vermelhos, Stratus di Sociedadi, etc.

She has participated as a dancer and soloist in the Pina Bausch Foundation's production of The Rite of Spring in collaboration with the École des Sables and Sadler’s Wells, went on tour worldwide with the newly assembled ensemble in 2021 and can be seen in the documentary film Dancing Pina. In October 2023, she completed her degree in dance at the Escola Superior de Dança in Lisbon and debuted her solo piece Ken Ke Mi, co-created with Nuno Barreto.

She has been a member of the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch since the 2023/2024 season.
