Julian Stierle

studied dance at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen and initially worked first as a freelance dancer, before joining the Folkwang Dance Studio, followed by Münster Theatre and Bremen Theatre. Since 2009, he has been performing in The Rite of Spring with the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch.

Stierle has worked with Fa-Hsuan Chen, Lutz Förster and Sergey Zhukov, who have shaped his artistic and personal development in important ways, as well as with the choreographers Malou Airaudo, Samir Akika, Rainer Behr, Stephan Brinkmann and Michael Carter, François Chaignaud, Darwin Diaz, Urs Dietrich, Daniel Goldin, Henrietta Horn, Chikako Kaido, Lihito Kamiya, Rodolpho Leoni, Susanne Linke, Fang-Yun Lo, Verena Meyer, Dimitris Papaioannou, Eun-Sik Park, Jorge Puerta, Stefanie Rahn, Ben J. Riepe, Fang-Yu Shen, Mark Sieczkarek, Yuki Takimori, Philip Taylor, Ophelia Young and others.

In 2018, when Pina Bausch’s The Rite of Spring was nominated for a Bessie Award in New York, Julian Stierle danced the leading role alongside his colleagues Tsai-Chin Yu and Tsai-Wei Tien.

Stierle has been a member of the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch since the the beginning of the 2015/2016 season.
