was born in Taiwan and studied dance at the Taiwan National University of the Arts in Taipei. She then received a DAAD scholarship to continue her studies at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen. In 2011, she joined the ensemble of the Folkwang Tanzstudio, where she stayed for four years. During this time, she also performed as a guest dancer in The Rite of Spring with the Tanztheater Wuppertal. She became a permanent member of the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch in August 2015.
Tsai-Wei Tien has danced in works by Dimitris Papaioannou, Emanuel Gat, Johannes Wieland, Francois Chaignaud & Cecilia Bengolea, Henrietta Horn, David Hernandez, Malou Airaudo, Rodolpho Leoni, Stephan Brinkmann and others. In addition to her work with the Tanztheater Wuppertal, she choreographs her own works, which have received several awards at dance festivals. She has collaborated with other artists on projects in North Rhine-Westphalia and internationally, and is particularly interested in working with artists from her home country Taiwan.
