Adolphe Binder has been intendant and artistic director of Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch since May 2017. From 2011 to 2016 she was artistic director of the Gothenburg Danskompani, in Sweden, developing a new image for the company and curating a range of productions.
Her work focusses on the creative conception and development of multi- and transdisciplinary works and programmes. She has worked as curator, dramaturg and creative producer. As former artistic director of the dance theatre at Berlin’s Komische Oper and dramaturg at the Deutsche Oper she has extensive experience in theatre. She has been active across a range of stages, at festivals, arts magazines and colleges. Her artistic and journalistic involvement with organisations ranging from Schauspiel Hannover, FriedrichVerlag publishers, the cultural programme of EXPO2000 and the Gotenburg Opera to the creative agencies artattack and BPB, which she founded, demonstrate the range of her interests.
Over the last twenty years she has collaborated with a range of international artists from ever genre. She has published various texts and a book on gender theory and theatre. Adolphe Binder is and has been a member of a range of German and international committees, juries and networks for artists and producers, joint managing director of Dance Germany’s lobbying network 'Ständige Konferenz Tanz', and a Goethe-Institut artistic research fellow.
She was born in Transylvania, Romania in 1969 and emigrated to West Germany in 1978. She studied Literature, Political Science, Philosophy and History.
