Pina Bausch Editions Palermo Palermo

As debut of the film series, video footage of the piece Palermo Palermo, which was taken shortly after the piece’s premiere in 1989, has been digitally restored. Thanks to a grant from the Arts Foundation of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Cultural Foundation of the German Federal States, the material produced by Metrovision was acquired from the publishing house L’Arche Éditeur and has now been cut into a film version by the Pina Bausch Foundation.

The 2019-2020 season

draws great strength from the fact that Pina Bausch spent 40 years creating the most magnificent dance pieces in Wuppertal and other cities all over the world. Now we are able to choose what is most important to us and what we want to see again.

The repertoire in 2019/2020 will be made up of nine works: 32 performances at the Opera House Wuppertal and a new edition of the Underground series with new productions by choreographers from the ensemble at the Schauspielhaus, the new Pina Bausch Centre, and the Glass Pavilion in the Sculpture Park in early November 2019.

In June 2020 there will be a new premiere, entitled Encounters, which will bring together the ensemble of the Tanztheater and choreographers, musicians and visual artists: Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Richard Siegal, Monika Gintersdorfer/Knut Klaßen, Helena Waldmann and Rainer Behr.

»I think it is important to know the world one lives in.«

Programme for children and young people

From the 2019/2020 season onwards, the Tanztheater Wuppertal will offer participatory projects for all types of schools on topics related to the upcoming season. Members of the ensemble and a variety of guest artists will work with young people to design projects in a collaborative process. Young people will have the opportunity to meet artists, participate in artistic creation and learn to express themselves through music, language, movement and creative design.

»The questions never stop, and the search never ceases. There’s something infinite in it, and that’s what’s so wonderful about it.«
